We believe that it is vital to know the role of the human spirit according to the Bible so that we can feel comfortable about consciously interacting with him.
We tend to miss the verses that refer to the human spirit. We usually do not realize these verses are talking about our human spirit when they have the small “s.” Sometimes we think they are talking about an attitude or that the word spirit is replacing the term for the heart. They often relate to evil spirits, and maybe that is why we might feel a bit uneasy with the term human spirit. Maybe because most of us do not see, feel, or hear our spirit, it is too abstract for us, therefore we have not acknowledged our human spirit correctly.
Nevertheless, 1 Corinthians 6:17, says, “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” How much could we benefit since it is together with the Lord. The idea that we could see, feel, hear, and understand more about Him through our spirit is fantastic. The Lord, through our spirit, presents us who we are.
The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. Romans 8:16
The Holy Spirit is bearing witness to our spirit about who we are. Our spirit will know a different version of whom we think we are in our heart and mind. Our spirit has so much to tell us. Interacting with our spirit will help us discover built-in things that do not let us see our real identity. We need to communicate with him to know what the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit say about us.
Our connection to our spirit is also vital so that we serve the Lord and administer His Word in a way that we may understand the spiritual nature of the New Testament. Our natural mind cannot connect to this spiritual nature of the New Testament, but our God-given spirit will. We have to process the letter in the Bible through a spirit perspective if we do not want to destroy the fruit that it may produce. The Word clearly says not to be a minister of the letter that kills but of the spirit.
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. 1 Corinthians 3:6
When we have developed our connection with our spirit, who is joined to the Holy Spirit, we may learn things we never heard or read before. The Holy Spirit teaches us all things. Meaning the order is not necessarily that we first see it in the Word, and then in our spirit, but God may reveal it in our spirit first, and then we find it in the Bible. Often we will learn things in our spirit, and later, we will understand them in the Word.

Sanctify Our Spirits
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
This list includes our spirit as part of what we need to sanctify. It also puts our spirit in the list just before soul and body. Guess what? It says what is says. Sanctify your spirit. This literally means to sanctify ourselves wholly, that is all of our being. There is nothing to leave out.
Our spirit, I believe, is, in its essence, pure, but it can be within a defiled setting. There exists filthiness not only in the realm of the flesh but also in that of our human spirit:
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1.
So we want to be blameless in spirit, soul, and body at the coming of Christ; and perfect in holiness in the fear of God. We should fear God rather than men who say otherwise.
This setting that would have filthiness in our spirit would be part of our spiritual makeup. Our spiritual makeup has different things that need to be there to connect our spirit, mind, soul, body, and heart. Our spiritual makeup has a context that may let our spirit nurture, grow, express itself, and walk us through God’s will. For the spirit to do all that it does in us, it needs many spiritual mechanisms by which it can connect into our natural realm. This spiritual infrastructure needs to be cleaned and restored with the help of our spirit by the covenant and power of the blood of Jesus Christ.
We believe that it is vital to know the role of the human spirit according to the Bible so that we can feel comfortable about consciously interacting with him. Our Spirit Knows
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God, knoweth no man but the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 2:11.
The same way the Spirit of God knows the things of God so does our human spirit know the things that are in us. Our spirit holds much information that we usually do not consider. For example, spiritual information, such as iniquities, curses, covenants, agreements, or beliefs, are legal issues, that do not let us move forward in our life and spiritual development.
For effective use of time, when we share about ourselves in an inner healing session we usually describe, what we think could be the root of our problem. Since our spirit knows better than what our soul, and mind knows, we can ask our spirit what he has to say about a given issue. Then we can pray with more precision about a given problem without missing the root issue. Doing this is how we can grow at an accelerated pace. We not only deal with the deepest roots of our problems, but we solve our issues a lot faster.
When we partner with our spirit to find the open doors that the enemy is using to attack us or the doors that need to open for the blessings of the Lord to come in. We can also find out whether or not the issue we are currently going through is an issue from our spirit, one from our soul, a physical issue, or whether it is demonic. Another good thing, to know is that our spirit knows the source of a given voice. Voices that talk to our mind, could be coming from a demon, from another human spirit, from a soul part, or from God.

Chambers of the Human Makeup
The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. Proverbs 20:27
The word for spirit here is breath in the original text. It is the breath that God gave us so that we might have life in us, according to Genesis 2:7. The term “inward parts” in Proverbs 20:27 is a chamber in Hebrew text, and the word for “belly” is the word body in Hebrew. This proverb could be written differently in the following way: “The breath of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the chambers of the body.” There is no translation in English like this because it probably did not make sense to translators that our breath could search in the body's chambers. The Hebrew word chambers (Cheder 2315, according to Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary) means a place surrounded by walls. It is an inner area hidden, secret, or protected. This Hebrew word is translated to “chambers” or “bedchamber” in the King James Version 30 out of 38 times that it appears in the Bible.
Let us understand three essential things that this verse in Proverbs has to say. One is that we have chambers in ourselves. Second is that there are more than one, because it says, “...searching all....” And third, our God-given breath lights up these chambers. There is, though, a fourth and most important thing to note: the Lord teams up with us so that what is needed is seen and found. Isn’t this wonderful? The Lord will work with us and for us, bringing light to our inner spiritual makeup.
It is the Lord’s will to search our chambers and make sure there is no darkness there. If there is, we will know what is causing it: an iniquity, a curse, a covenant, an agreement, or a sin.
Looking back to the Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary definition of the word Cheder, in its most basic sense, is a hidden place with a type of protection. This could be either something small or big, something containing few or many things in the spirit realm. Size and quantity is not a limit. So, it could be as small as a spiritual chamber or as big as an entire spiritual realm. It could contain a spirit portion or many soul parts. From our experience, the limit our spirit may see is further than a chamber in our body. It may go wherever the Lord wants to reveal. It could be anything secret with space within, surrounded by some access restraint, such as rooms in heaven or chambers in Sheol. We believe that it is vital to know the role of the human spirit according to the Bible so that we can feel comfortable about consciously interacting with him. Understanding the Spiritual Realm
But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Job 32:8
The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) renders the verse above in this way: “But it is a spirit in man and the breath of the Almighty that give him understanding.” Instead of the word inspiration, it uses the word breath. This translation shows the close relationship between the spirit of man and the breath of the Almighty. The next word is understanding, which in Hebrew means to discern. Thus, the understanding that God breathes is discernment into our spirit-man.
The context of this scripture in Job highlights the advantage of advice from our spirit-man. Elihu was the youngest of Job’s friends, but he happened to be the one who had the best discernment of the situation. When the older friends no longer had words to say to Job, Elihu was inspired to speak. He seemed to have connected to his human spirit, which was, in turn, inspired by God. Read the context below:
Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken because they were elder than he. When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled. And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid and durst not shew you mine opinion. I said Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom. But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Great men are not always wise: understand judgment. Job 32:1-9
Elihu, in other words, had better judgment than all the other older men that spoke because he connected with his human spirit. His spirit had the breath of Almighty, giving him discernment. Elihu, in his spirit, was able to pick up the direction of God’s blowing and arrive at better conclusions than his predecessors.
The Chay Revelation and the Chay Prayer model aims to help us walk with our spirit and get the breath of God in a way that we find direction and have hope as Elihu did.

Rule your spirit; rule a city
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Proverbs 16:32
The first verse says that one who is slow to anger is better than the mighty. Then it says that one who rules over his spirit is better than he that takes over a city. It also indirectly relates to the one who is slow to anger with the one who can rule over his spirit. It is good to control one’s anger, just as it is good to rule over one’s spirit. There is also the imagery of a mighty one ruling over a city. In other words, it is better to restrain and rule over one’s spirit than be a mighty one who takes over a city. Imagine how challenging it would be to take over a city and rule over it—comparing ruling one’s spirit to ruling over something as extended and dynamic as a city is insightful.
Interestingly, it is not the only time the Bible compares the human spirit to a city:
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Proverbs 25:28
The second proverb compares someone who does not rule his spirit with a broken down city without walls. A city that is practically in ruins. In other words, it is saying that someone who does not care for his spirit will be in ruins like a city without rule.
We need to know what is at stake here and unveil the meaning of both terms: spirit and rule. Understanding what we need to rule over is essential. To rule the spirit is not expressly about ruling over the human spirit. On the contrary, it is about the spirit man leading over everything else that is spiritual in ourselves. Our soul, mind, and internal makeup are probably included here in the word spirit. That is why the comparison is to a city in the most extended sense of the word spirit. Our spiritual makeup is complex, broad, deep, and high. A comparison to a city may even fall short, as we have been created in the image of God.
God-given and joined to the Lord, our spirit has the skill to rule over our invisible and spiritual makeup. We believe the issue is not about controlling the spirit, but of exercising dominion over what is spirit in us. Saying differently, it is about exercising authority over our spiritual makeup. Yes, there is a spirit in us, but this spirit governs over spiritual things within us.
Reigning over our spirit is much more than just controlling anger. Many things can cause anger, but our spirit needs to have dominion over very many things that will affect our self-control. That is why our spirit is compared to controlling an entire city. There are as many factors that could make us lose control as there would be when trying to reign over a city.
Following the two proverbs, we have, on the one hand, a man ruling as he should, and on the other, a city in ruins.
They present two opposite images that give crucial insight into why we should know about what encompasses our spirit-man and what is at stake if we fail to understand the spiritual nature of it all. Our spirit compared to a city, reveals the nature of our spirit. There is more to the spirit than just a figure-shaped being. The spirit-man is surrounded by many things, as any citizen would be, such as gates, walls, and buildings. This surrounding is spiritual in nature. Its substance is spirit too.
It is not a coincidence that two verses compare ruling the spirit as ruling over a city. Many things inside us are needed for our spirit to operate in leadership over our mind, soul, body, and heart. There are probably as many as we would find in a city. Our inside is larger than our outside in the understanding that we are multidimensional beings. If our spiritual makeup is like a big and complex city, then we have a significant challenge to rule over it.
Strong’s dictionary defines the word for city as a place guarded by a watch or by waking. This definition fits precisely what our spirit should do in us. Our spirit needs to watch over our different parts—including our soul, mind, and heart—to walk in dominion in our lives. To rule, govern, administer, or judge over our own life as if it were a city is just the beginning of a beautiful adventure to learn our identity, destiny, and joy of living.
The word to rule evokes two things that would make sense if we want to walk in dominion. To make something straight using a ruler and measuring if something is to the right size. With that in mind, having rule over our spirit would be about our spirit checking if things are straight and measured up.
The definition of the word to rule in the paragraph above is an excellent one. To see if something is straight and if it is the right size makes much sense because this is what we do during each part of our prayer in each dimension that our spirit goes.
When we learn to engage with the human spirit, we will be solving our issues by ourselves. Going from ministry to ministry or friend to friend will be less needed when looking for answers to our spiritual issues. Our human spirit will help find the issues that created problems in the first place at each dimension or room of the Chay corridor.
